What Is An Axial Flow Pump?

An axial flow pump is a common type of water pump used to transport liquid along the axis direction. Unlike a centrifugal pump, an axial flow pump primarily relies on the axial thrust generated by the blades to propel the liquid.

The working principle of an axial flow pump is as follows:

  1. The liquid enters the pump body through the inlet.

  2. The rotating impeller imparts rotational and axial thrust to the liquid.

  3. The liquid is pushed along the axial direction by the action of the impeller.

  4. The liquid is discharged through the outlet.

Axial Flow Pump

The characteristics of an axial flow pump include:

  • High flow rate: An axial flow pump can provide a large volume of fluid transportation.

  • Low head: Compared to a centrifugal pump, an axial flow pump has a lower head and is suitable for applications where a large flow rate is required without high pressure.

  • Simple structure: Axial flow pumps have a relatively simple structure, making them easy to manufacture and maintain.

  • Smooth operation: Axial flow pumps typically operate smoothly with low noise levels.

Axial flow pumps are commonly used in drainage systems, irrigation, cooling systems, ship propulsion, and other applications. When selecting an axial flow pump, factors such as the nature of the liquid, flow rate requirements, head requirements, and operating environment need to be taken into consideration.
